What Does It Mean to Discover Your God-Given Design?
Updated: Mar 24
Feeling unsure of your purpose or identity? Discover what it truly means to uncover your God-given design — and why your purpose was never something you had to find. It was already placed inside of you.

What if your purpose wasn't something you had to chase — but something you were born already carrying?
That question changed everything for me.
For years, I did what most of us do. I tried career after career, searched for clarity in the next role, the next relationship, the next season. I was an international flight attendant, a teacher, a makeup artist, a marketing agency owner. And every single time, I'd dive in, give it everything, and eventually feel that familiar pull — Is this really it?
The answer, for a long time, was always some version of "not quite."
It wasn't until I started revisiting my journals — entries I had written at 10 years old, at 17, at 25 — that I noticed something I couldn't ignore. The same themes kept surfacing. The same questions. The same gifts. The same fire. My younger self had been writing the answer all along. I just hadn't learned to read it yet.
That's when I understood what it means to discover your God-given design.
Your Design Is Already In You — Not Ahead of You
Most of us were taught that purpose is something we find out there. In the right job title. In the right degree. In the right ministry role. But Ephesians 2:10 tells us something completely different: "We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Read that again. Prepared in advance.
Your purpose wasn't assembled after you arrived. It was woven into you before you took your first breath. Jeremiah 1:5 confirms it: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you."
This means your God-given design isn't a destination you reach at the end of a long journey. It's the blueprint you were born with — your U-Print. Unique. Intentional. Already present.
Discovering it isn't about doing more. It's about unlearning what the world told you about who you're supposed to be, so you can finally see clearly who God already made you to be.
So Why Does It Feel So Hard to See?
Because life layers things on top of your design.
The pressure to produce. The job titles that become your identity. The relationships where you searched for yourself in someone else. The seasons of rejection that made you question whether God's promise was even real anymore.
I know what it feels like to sit in a car, freshly fired, and wonder if everything is falling apart. I also know what it feels like when the sun breaks through the clouds in that very moment and you sense — deeply sense — that something greater is happening.
The hard seasons weren't evidence that your design was wrong. They were the unlearning — the process of stripping away what was never really you in the first place.
What God-Given Design Actually Looks Like
Your design shows up in the patterns nobody taught you. It's the way you naturally help people think more clearly, the way you feel restless in environments that lack integrity, the way justice fires something up inside you that no career title could ever fully contain.
It shows up in what drains you and what fills you. In the moments you feel most like yourself. In the dreams you keep writing about, even when you've told yourself they're too big.
Here are a few questions to help you start seeing it:
What problems make you angry? Righteous anger often points to divine assignment.
What comes naturally to you that others seem to struggle with? Your ease is often their need.
What themes keep showing up in your journals, your prayers, your conversations? Patterns reveal design.
What would you do even if no one was watching or paying you? That's a clue to your calling.
Discovering Your Design Is a Return, Not a Search
Here's what I want you to hold onto: You are not lost. You are not behind. You are not a failed version of someone you were supposed to become by now.
You are in the process of being revealed.
John 15:5 says, "I am the vine; you are the branches." Your design doesn't grow apart from God. It grows in connection with Him. The closer you stay to the vine, the clearer your purpose becomes. He's not hiding it from you, but the fruit only forms when you're rooted.
Discovering your God-given design is less about a breakthrough moment and more about a daily returning. Returning to His Word. Returning to stillness. Returning to the you that existed before the world started telling you who to be.
You're not lost. You have yet to be seen.
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." — Ephesians 2:10
